Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing are protecting Tang Monk on his journey to the West to retrieve the scriptures. One day, the four of them pass by a mountain. The sky above is so high it seems to touch the clouds. Wukong worries about monsters and tells the Tang Monk and his disciples to dismount and rest, while he goes to investigate first. Just as Wukong leaves, a wolf demon on patrol sees the Tang Monk and his disciples and thinks, "Where are these strangers from?" He rushes back to report. It turns out the mountain is indeed special—it has a cave where a group of demons live. The cave's master, the White Bone Demon, was originally just a pile of bones but later cultivated herself into a demon. The White Bone Demon spends her days stirring up trouble, (specializing in harming the people). Upon hearing the report, she rushes to investigate and is overjoyed when she sees the Tang Monk. "Wow, it's Tang Monk!" she exclaims. She had long heard that the famous monk Xuanzang from the Tang Dynasty would pass through this area on his journey to the West. The flesh of Tang Monk is considered a rare delicacy in the world—just one bite can grant immortality! This is exactly what she has been dreaming of, and now her wish has finally come true.
