Features: The Political Economy Textbook was initially commissioned by the Department of Political Education of the Ministry of Education and the University Work Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1981, and was compiled by the Department of Economics of Renmin University of China. It was edited by the senior economics professor Song Tao and served as a textbook for higher education institutions' Marxist theory courses and finance and economics majors. The book was first published in March 1982 and has been published in seven editions to date. The book emphasizes the analysis of fundamental theories of Marxist political economy and focuses on elucidating the laws of socio-economic development. It has a complete theoretical system, a rational structure, and clear key points. The book emphasizes the combination of theory and practice, discussing new issues in China's socialist modernization and reform and opening-up, as well as the new characteristics and changes in the contemporary capitalist economy.
The seventh edition of the book was comprehensively revised in line with the spirit of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, particularly the resolutions of the Central Committee meetings held since the 16th National Congress. It focuses on elaborating how the Scientific Outlook on Development guides China's socio-economic progress and promotes the construction of a harmonious socialist society.
