Patient's question:
My baby is 29 days old and I feel like they're having some difficulty breathing. If it's pneumonia, would it be possible to treat it at home? Is it necessary to receive intravenous fluids for newborn pneumonia? Can medication solve the problem? Thank youDoctor's answer:
Neonatal pneumonia is the most common infectious disease. The younger the child, the more likely they are to get sick. It occurs 1-2 weeks after birth and can happen all year round. Neonatal pneumonia is usually characterized by nasal congestion, coughing, fever, lethargy, choking on milk, crying less, spitting fine white foam, and shallow breathing. Blue or purple discoloration can be seen around the mouth or on the limbs, while other parts of the skin appear gray or pale. In severe cases, it may lead to apnea.
