Features: First, the Xiamen University Taiwan Studies team has a relatively relaxed and free academic environment. Internally, the team has always been a hotbed of diverse ideas and debates. If someone were to claim allegiance to a particular school of thought, they would immediately face criticism within the research institute. Second, the Xiamen University Taiwan Studies team has consistently focused on absorbing the intellectual contributions of Taiwan scholars from around the world. The academic vitality of Xiamen University's Taiwan Studies program relies on the knowledge and collaboration of peers both domestically and internationally. Personally, I believe the greatest feature of Xiamen University's Taiwan Studies lies in its comprehensive discipline system, emphasis on foundational research, and strong attention to academic rigor. Xiamen University's Taiwan Studies program also benefits from its interdisciplinary strengths, with the cross-pollination of disciplines such as political science, economics, history, and literature, creating a solid knowledge foundation. Looking ahead, we need not only to continue promoting the spirit of、、 (predecessors who understood Taiwan historically, comprehensively, and pragmatically), fostering cross-strait academic exchanges, and serving the great cause of national unification, but also to remain grounded, practice self-reflection, and strengthen both foundational and cutting-edge research. The five essay collections in this issue, titled (Essentials), are in fact the academic self-reflections of all the full-time researchers in our institute. We hope it has the honor of becoming a target for critical scrutiny by all our academic peers who deeply love and hold high expectations for the Xiamen University Taiwan Studies Institute—any constructive criticism and feedback will serve as motivation for the institute's continued growth.
