Features: Shen Hongfang's doctoral dissertation, The Commonality and Individuality of Female Narratives—A Comparative Discussion on the Creative Works of Wang Anyi and Tie Ning, is about to be published. I am happy for her and congratulate her on this achievement. I also take this opportunity to say a few words about her dissertation. Through a comparative analysis of the creative works of Wang Anyi and Tie Ning and male texts on the same themes, we can see that, unlike male narratives, the spiritual essence of female narratives lies in conveying an understanding of female values through the representation of female experiences. The relationship between these two aspects is one of appearance and essence. Without a focus on the authentic and rich representation of female experiences, the understanding of female values becomes rootless and becomes merely a mouthpiece for concepts. Without the support of an understanding of female values, the simple representation of female experiences becomes sourceless, lacking a certain charm and tending toward mediocrity and triviality, reducing women's lives to a purposeless existence. Only by organically combining female experiences with an understanding of female values can we continuously shape authentic and rich female images, allowing women's portrayal in literature to gradually deviate from the predetermined track of being objectified andized, and instead approach a more human existence. Wang Anyi and Tie Ning have produced a large number of outstanding works over the past two decades, which are the result of their continuous exploration of female subjectivity and the representation of rich female experiences. This may be one of the most profound insights we can gain from the creative works of Wang Anyi and Tie Ning.
