Patient's question:
I have always had the habit of sexual intercourse. I noticed that the glans and foreskin are, even when erect. This condition has been discovered for some time now. Is it due to excessive foreskin?Doctor's answer:
The foreskin tightly wraps around the glans and cannot fully retract. If it cannot retract during cleaning, sexual intercourse, or movement, it indicates phimosis. If it cannot retract at all, it indicates paraphimosis. Phimosis and paraphimosis can lead to balanoposthitis due to chronic irritation from urine and smegma over a long period. This can cause swelling, congestion, and erosion of the foreskin and glans, leading to repeated infections and even paraphimosis. If not treated promptly, the inflammation can spread downward along the reproductive tract, causing inflammation of the prostate, seminal vesicles, and epididymis. Additionally, it can be transmitted to sexual partners during intercourse. Furthermore, it may also lead to premature ejaculation. From a health and prevention perspective, early surgical removal is recommended.
