What is bilateral cryptorchidism

Patient's question:

Children's Research Institute, March 1, 2011

Doctor's answer:

If the testicles have not descended into the scrotum by the age of two, surgical intervention should be considered. Surgery before the age of two has minimal impact on the testicles' sperm production function. Beyond the age of four, it can significantly affect this function, and beyond the age of eight, it can severely impact it. If surgery is performed after the age of twelve, the testicles' sperm production function cannot be restored even with the operation. Therefore, it is best to perform the orchiopexy (surgical fixation of undescended testicles) before the age of two.
