Features: What is meant by economic history is simply the history of economic development and economic growth, the economic aspect of historical evolution, and the general term for economic activities in a certain historical period. However, as an interdisciplinary and foundational subject within the field of economic science, economic history is also the discipline that studies the specific processes and special laws of economic activities and economic relations in various historical periods, different countries or regions. It provides a basis for summarizing historical experiences and predicting future trends in social and economic development, as well as offering a historical context for studying economic thoughts, theories, and policies formed in different historical periods. Without the in-depth study and development of economic history, the research of economic theory would lose its main direction. Cambridge Economic History of Europe is divided into three parts. The first three volumes form one part, primarily exploring the transition of Europe's economy from the Middle Ages to the modern era, what factors determined why Europe's economy, rather than other regions', was the first to complete the shift from an agrarian society to an industrial society, and the changes that occurred in different economic sectors during this transition. The fourth and fifth volumes constitute the second part of the book, focusing on Europe's overseas expansion as a whole in the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as the Industrial Revolution in Europe. The third part consists of volumes six, seven, and eight, primarily studying and analyzing the history of economic development in Western countries, including the United States and Japan, since the Industrial Revolution.
