Features: This book is a college-level Chinese language teaching material commissioned by the Ministry of Education. After the Higher Education Textbook Writing Plan for Colleges and Universities was formulated at the National Textbook Conference for Liberal Arts in 1978, representatives from ten universities and colleges tasked with writing the book—Beijing Normal University, Beijing Normal Teachers College, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Jilin Normal University, Shanghai Normal Teachers College, Harbin Normal Teachers College, South China Normal Teachers College, Northwest University, and Wuhan Normal Teachers College—held a writing meeting in Harbin, established a writing team, assigned responsibilities, and discussed matters related to the textbook's development. In March 1979, the writing team held a meeting in Shanghai to discuss the detailed outline of the book and widely solicited opinions from representatives of over forty universities and literary research institutions invited to the meeting. To further address challenges encountered during the writing process, members of the writing team participated in a meeting in August 1979 alongside literary researchers and educators to discuss relevant issues, ensuring the smooth progress of the textbook's development.
