Publishing Date: 1991-07-01
Features: Mr. Lü Cheng devoted himself to Buddhist studies for ten years, producing extensive works with rigorous arguments and many insightful observations. Unfortunately, most of his manuscripts were lost during the ten-year cultural revolution. After the turmoil, he searched and collected many of his old drafts. With his instructions, the manuscript was compiled, including sixty-seven types of writings and twenty-eight appended articles related to them. The preliminary draft was named Selected Works on Buddhist Studies by Lü Cheng. Among them, the works such as A Brief Introduction to the Origins of Indian Buddhism and A Brief Introduction to the Origins of Chinese Buddhism, compiled by his disciple Tan Zhuangfei, and An Explanation of the Principles of Entering the Right Path of Logic, compiled by Zhang Chunbo, were previously published as separate volumes by Shanghai People's Publishing House and Zhonghua Book Company. Following his instructions, they were included in this collection, and most of the manuscripts were published. Mr. Lü is over ninety years old and in good health, still personally selecting and reviewing the table of contents and the selection of articles. However, he was unable to thoroughly review all the compiled drafts. Any omissions or errors should be the responsibility of the compilers. We sincerely hope that scholars from all over the world will kindly offer their advice.
