Consult how to treat varicocele

Patient's question:

Recently, I often feel a slight pain in both testicles, especially during sexual activity, where even a touch causes pain. I went to the hospital for a thorough examination, and the doctor said I have varicocele. What does varicocele in the urology department mean? How is varicocele treated?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele is classified into three degrees: grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3. The treatment methods for them are also different. Grades 1 and 2 varicoceles are often not very severe and generally do not affect quality of life or semen quality, so conservative treatment can be adopted. Wear compression underwear to prevent varicocele, avoid sitting for long periods and drinking alcohol, and develop good habits. For grade 3 varicoceles, it may affect semen quality and cause significant scrotal swelling and pain. Surgical treatment such as high ligation of the spermatic vein can be performed.
