How to treat varicocele

Patient's question:

I have right varicocele. When I was looking up information, some said it can be cured, while others said surgery is necessary. What's going on with this? How is varicocele treated?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele is caused by venous blood stasis in the spermatic vein, leading to venous reflux obstruction, or it can be triggered by renal tumors or other retroperitoneal tumors. If there are no discomforting symptoms, treatment may not be necessary. However, if there is a feeling of heaviness, swelling, or infertility, surgical treatment can be considered.
Recommendation: It is best to consult and undergo treatment at a reputable large hospital.
Varicocele can affect sperm production and semen quality because of venous expansion and congestion, leading to a decrease in local temperature, accumulation of carbon dioxide in testicular tissue, and increased concentrations of catecholamines, cortisol, and prostaglandins in the blood.
