Orphan's Lament — Set to the Tune of "Little White Cabbage"
Autumn comes, leaves turn yellow,
Fifteen or sixteen, lost my home!
The Japanese are truly fierce,
Killed my father and mother, left none!
Father and mother killed, house taken,
Young and small, wandering all alone!
Stepped outside, eyes filled with darkness,
Clouds drift high, wind grows cold!
Sun sets west, nowhere to sleep,
Thinking of father and mother, tears overflow!
Tears overflow, tears overflow!
Peonies bloom, apricot petals fall,
I miss my father and mother, who knows?
Father and mother miss me like a gust of wind,
I dream of father and mother in my sleep!
Blood stains red on father and mother's heads,
The Japanese are truly cruel!
Father and mother lie down, silent,
Thinking of father and mother, tears brim!
Wind sighs sadly, moon sheds no light,
Crying for father and mother at midnight,
Crying for father and mother, crying for father and mother!
Roosters crow, dogs jump over walls,
Running here and there, where to go?
Rivers flow, grapes grow,
Winding path leads back to home!
Home is eight hundred miles away,
Good fields and gardens ruined!
Father and mother died without peace,
Not avenging this would bring shame!
Determined to join the guerrilla team,
Fight victories, return to home!
Return to home, return to home!
