Does acupuncture have an effect on cerebral palsy?

Patient's question:

The child of a relative is 9 months old and has spastic cerebral palsy, with high muscle tone. They are currently undergoing rehabilitation training, in addition to intravenous brain protein infusion and acupoint injection. However, the parents find the acupuncture and acupoint injection too painful for the child. Here, they would like to hear suggestions from experts, hoping for honest and straightforward advice. Thank you all very much!!!

Doctor's answer:

The effect is not significant. Children with cerebral palsy aged 9 months should primarily focus on oral medicine, supplemented by rehabilitation training and massage, and avoid needle insertion as much as possible. Generally, cerebral palsy is difficult to treat. Choose a less criminal approach toward the child. The incidence of cerebral palsy is mostly during prenatal or infancy. Causes include: birth injuries, neonatal kernicterus, brain hypoxia, preterm birth, etc. The main symptoms are increased muscle tone, difficulty in abduction, and severe cases may show muscle stiffness. The results indicate that the movement of the heels cannot touch the ground. Most patients also have language development disorders, dysarthria, and strabismus. They find it difficult to move. When babies are born, their hands and feet do not crawl. Babies still hold hands at 4-6 months after birth. There is hope that speaking, walking, and intelligence can return to normal.
