Is the foreskin too long?

Patient's question:

I am 34 years old and wondering if it is necessary to have a circumcision surgery. Our intimate time is short, and it has been causing me great distress to the point where I can't even eat properly. I'm also at a loss about what to do. So, I want to ask if it has anything to do with the foreskin?

Doctor's answer:

In normal adult males after puberty, the glans is fully or mostly exposed. If the glans cannot be exposed, the foreskin still tightly covers the full or most of the glans, but the foreskin can be retracted manually or the glans can be exposed when the foreskin retracts after erection, this is called phimosis. The hazards of phimosis include: obstructing penile growth and development, causing penile inflammation, endangering kidney function, affecting women's health, and posing a risk of carcinogens. It is recommended to clean the external genital area daily and keep it dry. If inflammation frequently recurs, it is advised to undergo circumcision at a regular hospital.
