Prose essays with relatively weak lyrical and literary qualities that focus more on reasoning and debate have been excluded. Lu Xun's photographs and manuscripts were provided by Zhou Haiying. To make this book the most accurate among various versions of Lu Xun's prose, it was compiled and edited by Jin Yinming, an expert from the Lu Xun Museum. In addition to ensuring comprehensive inclusion, the compiler referenced Lu Xun's manuscripts and other existing versions, cross-referenced them against the 1938 edition of The Complete Works of Lu Xun compiled by the Lu Xun Memorial Committee and published by Shanghai Fusha, and corrected some errors, choosing the best options. The appendix includes Lu Xun's writings on prose, as well as texts on the prose collections Morning Glories Plucked at Dusk () and Wild Grass (). Additionally, other prose selected from Lu Xun's essays, such as masterpieces, reflections, documentary prose, nostalgic prose, letters, diary prose, prefaces and postfaces, and lecture prose, are included. Prose essays that are primarily focused on reasoning and debate with relatively weak lyrical and literary qualities have been excluded.
