Golden Key · Seventeen Articles Agreement (Part 1, Part 2)

Publish Date: 2004-12-01
Features: Half a century has passed, and due to differing standpoints, both domestically and internationally, there is no consensus on this "Agreement." However, no matter who you are or what position you hold, as long as you discuss Tibet or focus on the people of Tibet, you cannot avoid this agreement. For old Tibet, the "Seventeen Points Agreement" marked an end; for the birth of modern Tibet, it represents a new beginning. Regardless, it remains a milestone in Tibetan history. Therefore, as two young scholars who have not been engaged in Tibetan studies for too long, we share the same motivation—a desire to: use the materials collected over the past ten years, adopt the method of focusing on actors' strategies within a realistic political framework, and restore the signing of the "Seventeen Points Agreement" to an international stage, thereby offering as objective an academic evaluation of this historical event as possible. Naturally, we hope that readers will find value in reading this book. As for our perspectives, of course, they only represent ourselves.
