Patient's question:
The head of my penis is a bit itchy, so I went to see a doctor. The doctor said it was fungal balanitis and prescribed some medication. But I really don't understand what fungal balanitis is. Is there a difference between balanitis being fungal or not?Doctor's answer:
Candidal balanoposthitis is a disease of the male reproductive organ caused by a fungal infection. It is a conditionally pathogenic fungus, and candidal balanitis can be transmitted sexually. Experts advise patients with candidal balanoposthitis to strictly prohibit sexual activity while receiving active treatment.Symptoms of candidal balanitis: Patients with candidal balanitis usually experience significant itching. If the urethra is affected, symptoms such as frequent urination and urgency may recur. In rare cases, patients with candidal balanitis may develop acute edematous balanitis, characterized by significant swelling of the foreskin accompanied by itching, small ulcers, and sometimes diabetes. In rare instances, men may experience penile itching, burning sensation, and redness of the foreskin and glans within hours of sexual intercourse with a woman suffering from candidal vulvitis.
