Features: This book is selected and compiled by experts from the Lu Xun Museum. To make this book the most accurate among the numerous editions of Lu Xun's prose, the compiler used the "Complete Works of Lu Xun" edited by the Lu Xun Memorial Committee in 1938 and published by Shanghai Fusha as the base text. It was collated and revised by referring to Lu Xun's existing manuscripts and other versions, choosing the best and adopting it.
The essay is a new literary form created by Lu Xun. This form not only absorbs the characteristics of the British essay (Essay)—concise length, sharp wit, subtle significance, and the ability to convey depth in small details—but also draws inspiration from the style of Wei and Jin prose, which is "clear, unadorned, elegant, and grand," especially inheriting the strength of Wei and Jin-era writings. His essays and short comments are the backbone of Lu Xun's essays, focusing on argumentation and integrating the realm of poetry, imagery, and beautiful language. It is a fusion of poetry and political commentary, a crystallization of historical writing and poetic sentiment, an organic combination of logical and imaginative thinking, and a product of the unity of the warrior and the poet.
