Prostatitis, will it cause infertility?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been feeling that urination is not good, and there is pain during intercourse when ejaculation occurs. I went to the hospital for a thorough examination, and the result was seminal vesiculitis. I'm worried that it will interfere with the progress of preparing for a second child. Could you please advise if seminal vesiculitis can lead to infertility?

Doctor's answer:

Prostatitis can lead to infertility. Prostatitis is an inflammation of the seminal vesicles caused by pathogens, which can increase the secretion of seminal fluid, interfere with sperm vitality, and result in insufficient semen volume. This prevents the semen from adequately filling the seminal fluid pool in the posterior fornix of the vagina, potentially leading to infertility. Therefore, proper treatment is necessary. Generally, sensitive or broad-spectrum antibiotics are used for a full course of treatment, typically lasting 2 to 4 weeks. Because antibiotic treatment may affect sperm quality and lead to adverse early pregnancy outcomes for the female partner, it is necessary to wait three months after stopping medication before starting pregnancy preparation.
