Does prostatitis cause hematuria?

Patient's question:

What causes hematuria? Does seminal vesiculitis cause hematuria? Or is it just a common inflammation?

Doctor's answer:

Hematuria may be caused by urinary tract infections, bladder inflammation, or urinary system stones. Prostatitis usually does not and will never cause hematuria. It is also possible for it to lead to hematospermia, but there is generally no significant relationship between occasional blood in urine and prostatitis. You currently need to undergo a urinalysis, prostate ultrasound, and kidney ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis. If it is a urinary tract infection, the primary treatment is anti-inflammatory medication with antibiotics. If there are stones, small ones can be treated with medication and increased fluid intake to help expel them, while larger stones usually require minimally invasive surgery.
