Features: This book is part of the "Daily Knowledge Classics" series, featuring two works by Aristophanes, one of Athens' most famous comic playwrights. Aristophanes was called the "Father of Comedy" by Engels. He wrote 44 comedies, of which 11 have been passed down to this day. Among them, The Knights and The Wasps expose the political ambitions of demagogues who deceive the people using democracy; The Clouds and The Frogs depict the phenomena in education and the literary world; The Assemblywomen and The Wealth reflect factional struggles and economic inequality; The Birds satirizes adventurers who bring disaster to the Athenians (referring to the Sicilian Expedition); and The Acharnians, Peace, and Lysistrata oppose civil war and express a desire for peace. His writing style is free and unrestrained, blending elegance, humor, and biting satire to create a performance-oriented form with prominent character portrayals. The The Clouds and The Wasps included in this volume are translations by the renowned classicist, Mr. Luo Niansheng. The The Clouds is excerpted from The Comedies of Aristophanes published by the People's Literature Publishing House, while the The Wasps is excerpted from Two Comedies of Aristophanes published by Hunan People's Publishing House. Except for errors caused by formatting, the comparative edition largely preserves the original form of the translations.
