What should I do if my one-month-old baby is not eating well?

Patient's question:

My son is 4.5 months old and hasn't been eating well for over a month. Especially in the last ten days, when he's awake, he eats a few spoonfuls and then stops. If I try to feed him again, he starts crying. When he's about to fall asleep (in a drowsy state), he can still eat a bit, but the amount immediately drops to around 500 milliliters, which is about the same as before treatment. My child is on formula milk, and I'm very worried about his condition.

Doctor's answer:

Why do babies refuse to eat? Normal newborns usually focus on feeding in the first two months after birth. They cry when hungry and sleep when full, gaining weight rapidly. Parents feel a great sense of achievement watching their beloved baby grow like a balloon, inch by inch. But after three months, most babies start to eat intermittently instead of feeding continuously, sometimes making gurgling sounds. There are also curious babies who stop sucking whenever there's a sound or movement around them, clearly finding other things much more interesting than feeding.
