What is a prostatic cyst?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been feeling like I can't empty my bladder in one go, and the frequency has increased significantly compared to before. I went to the urology department for a check-up, and the doctor's diagnosis was a prostatic cyst. I'd like to ask, what is a prostatic cyst?

Doctor's answer:

Prostatic cyst refers to the re-emergence of liquid-filled masses in the prostate. It is commonly seen in congenital small cysts, infections, or acquired prostatic duct obstruction. Due to the formation of masses within the prostate, the gland's volume decreases, and to a certain extent, it compresses the urethra, leading to urethral narrowing, reduced urethral resistance, and difficulty in urination. It is generally caused by infections, requiring targeted antibiotic treatment (sensitive or broad-spectrum antibiotics). If necessary, prostatic cyst puncture with anesthetic and hardening agents may be performed. In cases of recurrent recurrence, surgical treatment may be considered. It is recommended to quit smoking and drinking alcohol, and to minimize the intake of spicy and irritating foods.
