What is the disease of hernia?

Patient's question:

I've been feeling unwell lately, with my skin and lower body being particularly itchy. The doctor said I might have a hernia. I'd like to ask what a hernia is and how it's treated?

Doctor's answer:

A hernia is a lump formed when an organ in the human body, under strong pressure, retracts to its original position and enters another cavity. It may be accompanied by pain and can even lead to incarceration. The most common type in humans is inguinal hernia, followed by incisional hernia, umbilical hernia, etc. In adults, inguinal hernia may present with a localized lump, accompanied by a sense of heaviness and fullness, which can disappear after lying down. After onset, it may gradually decrease in size, but frequent weakness increases the risk of incarceration. The symptom of "pain in the lower body like bleeding" does not match the typical manifestations of a hernia.
To confirm a hernia diagnosis, in addition to typical symptoms, a thorough MRI examination is necessary. It is best to promptly seek a proper hospital's general surgery department for a careful examination and diagnosis to confirm the condition. Timely surgical treatment should be administered to prevent complications. Hernias in adults will never heal on their own.
