Why do urinary tract infections occur?

Patient's question:

I recently don't know what's going on, my lower body is very uncomfortable, and I'm not getting morning erections anymore. Could you please tell me why I might have a urinary tract infection?

Doctor's answer:

Through your description, your child is just 12 years old and a boy. At this age, boys are more prone to urinary tract infections, and there are two main reasons to consider. First, boys at this age are in the midst of puberty, and their reproductive organs are rapidly developing. If their undergarments are not changed promptly, it can lead to urinary tract infections through the urethra. The second reason, which is also a common cause, is that your child may have phimosis or excessive foreskin. This can easily trap bacteria and dirt under the foreskin, leading to urinary tract diseases. If there is phimosis or excessive foreskin, even frequent cleaning will not be thoroughly effective.
