Publishing Date: 2004-06-01
Features: This book consists of three parts: "Tao Feng's Illustrated Biography," the prison-written autobiographical "Experiences," and "Reminiscences of Hardship." In November 1936, Mr. Zou Tao Feng was arrested for participating in the leadership of the Save the Country League and spent 243 days in prison. Amidst the struggles, he dedicated himself to writing and translating, and "Experiences," an autobiographical work, was one of his achievements. The book comprises 61 chapters recounting his life experiences and fragments of his life over the past two decades, particularly his experiences in cultural undertakings and the evolution of his thoughts, serving as a microcosm of the life path of modern patriotic and democratic intellectuals. In addition to being published individually, the chapters were compiled and published by the Life Bookstore in April 1937. In the spring of 1944, despite being bedridden and suffering from illness, Mr. Tao Feng persisted in writing "Reminiscences of Hardship." This work is both an autobiographical account of his turbulent life after multiple exiles and a historical document protesting the government's cultural control measures. Regrettably, he only managed to write over 50,000 words before his death, leaving it as an unfinished final work. "Tao Feng's Illustrated Biography" includes 264 images preserved in the Shanghai Tao Feng Memorial Hall, compiled, designed, and completed by Mr. Cao Xinzhi. Sanlian Bookstore published it in 1982, and it is now included in this collection for reprinting.
