Features: The Hu Shi Red Studies Chronology is divided into two parts: "Preface" and "Chronology." The "Chronology" is the main part. It centers on Hu Shi, compiling and organizing all his writings and statements on Red Studies, along with relevant historical materials, making the trajectory of Hu Shi as the founder and pioneer of New Red Studies clearly visible, with a strong sense of history. The author has meticulously collected 104 documents related to Hu Shi's research on Dream of the Red Chamber. Many of these are original materials unearthed by the author, such as Notes from the Zanghui Room: Discourses on Fiction, the manuscript of A Study of the Dream of the Red Chamber (first draft), and the preface to the Qianlong Gengchen Edition (Liyanzhai Revisited Stone Story). The published works on Hu Shi's discussions of Dream of the Red Chamber are riddled with errors. The Hu Shi Red Studies Chronology conducts meticulous textual criticism and verification of the various versions of the cited documents, correcting many inaccuracies and summarizing key annotations in the chronology. The "Preface" primarily covers the background of Hu Shi's Red Studies research, with the focus on the "Author" and "Texts," as Hu Shi advocated for approaching Red Studies from these two questions. The "Preface" begins with the death of Cao Yin, as Hu Shi's research on Cao Xueqin started with Cao Yin. This book fills the gaps in both Hu Shi studies and Red Studies research.
