What is urinary frequency?

Patient's question:

I urinate about five times a day, is that considered frequent urination? Besides, how is urinary pain and urgency determined?

Doctor's answer:

Frequency refers to an increased number of urination episodes within a unit of time. (The average number of urination episodes for a normal person during the day is 3-4, and at night is 1-2). Dysuria refers to: pain in the urethra or accompanied by pain in the pubic bone or perineum during urination. Dysuria refers to pain in the urethra, bladder, and perineum during urination. The degree of pain varies, often presenting as a burning sensation, with severe cases being as sharp as a knife. Urgency is: the inability to control urination, where the urge to urinate comes on suddenly, requiring immediate urination; or after urination, there is still the urge to urinate urgently, and failing to urinate in time may result in wetting the underwear. The main cause of frequent urination, urgency, and dysuria in males is urinary tract infection.
