Patient's question:
Doctor, if a newborn experiences asphyxia, what should be done immediately? How should it be cared for?Doctor's answer:
Hello, maintain airway patency: Respiratory obstruction is a common cause of neonatal asphyxia. Therefore, once neonatal asphyxia occurs, it should be rapidly, correctly, and effectively restored. Anyone who estimates that asphyxia may occur after birth should be prepared for resuscitation. Newborns should be placed on a preheated radiant warmer after birth. Throughout the resuscitation process, the amniotic fluid stained with blood must be kept warm and dry to reduce surface heat loss. The temperature during resuscitation should be maintained at 30–32°C to reduce oxygen consumption and facilitate the recovery of neonatal hypoxic asphyxia. The amniotic fluid and oropharyngeal meconium should be suctioned out, and the newborn should be placed in a supine position with the head lower. If a large amount of liquid is aspirated into the respiratory tract and the location is deep, a catheter can be used under a laryngoscope to suction it out. Before thoroughly suctioning respiratory secretions, avoid stimulating crying to reduce complications caused by asphyxia.
