Can you drink beer during the treatment of asthenozoospermia?

Patient's question:

My husband suffers from asthenozoospermia and is currently undergoing treatment. Due to the hot weather, he always wants to drink a bottle of beer at noon every day. I don't want to interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment, so I always refuse to let him.

Doctor's answer:

Low sperm motility, also known as asthenozoospermia, refers to a condition where the percentage of progressively motile sperm (grades a and b) in semen parameters is below 50% or the percentage of grade a motile sperm is below 25%. There are many causes that can lead to low sperm motility, but the most common ones include: prolonged cold exposure (an increasing number of dead sperm and a decline in sperm viability), excessively high or low environmental temperatures, varicocele, inflammatory infections of the reproductive tract, immune suppression, endocrine disorders, many drugs that affect sperm development, radiation, as well as smoking and alcohol intoxication, etc.
