How long after surgery does sperm begin to fully recover?

Patient's question:

Age 27, oligospermia and asthenozoospermia. Three-degree varicocele on the left side. Mild varicocele on the right side. Hello, what is the possibility of complete recovery of semen after surgery? In my case, whether to have surgery on the left side or both sides, the doctor asked about your experience regarding the proportion of normal semen recovery after surgery? How long does it usually take for sperm to begin fully recovering after surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele refers to the tortuous and dilated expansion of veins in the spermatic cord due to impaired venous. It is a common disease among young and middle-aged adults, characterized by the dilatation, tortuosity, and elongation of the pampiniform plexus (vein vascular) caused by venous blood stasis in the spermatic cord. The incidence rate in the male population is 10-15%, accounting for 15-20% of male infertility cases. This condition often occurs on the left side, but bilateral cases are not uncommon, with an incidence as high as approximately 20%. Varicocele can be accompanied by testicular atrophy and impaired sperm development, leading to male infertility.
