Patient's question:
I noticed a lump in the left testicle earlier. After a thorough examination at the hospital, it was confirmed to be varicocele. I don't know the best way to treat it.Doctor's answer:
Varicocele is a condition where the veins in the spermatic cord become dilated and tortuous due to blood stasis. It is more common in young and middle-aged adults and is often found on the left side. In mild cases, it may be asymptomatic, but in severe cases, it can cause a dull ache in the affected scrotum when standing for long periods, carrying heavy loads, or engaging in strenuous physical activity. Resting in a supine position can alleviate the pain. During health check-ups, the affected scrotum may appear relaxed, and a palpation may reveal a worm-like mass. This patient is 14 years old and has not yet reached marriageable age. It is recommended to postpone surgery for now. After marriage, sperm quality can be checked periodically. Currently, conservative treatment can be used, such as wearing elastic pants or a scrotal support band. If sperm quality declines or the dull ache becomes severe, surgery may be considered for treatment.
