Patient's question:
My baby is now 20 days old and has developed many large red bumps on her face. What should I do about the rash?Doctor's answer:
Symptoms of infant facial eczema Infant eczema comes in various forms, mostly presenting symmetrically, sometimes mild, sometimes severe. There are clusters of scattered red spots and papules on the face. The scalp or eyebrows may have greasy scales and yellowish, shiny crusts. In mild cases, only pale red patches with slight scaling are present; in severe cases, there are redness, blisters, erosion, and weeping, which continuously spread and enlarge. If excessive scratching, rubbing, or burning occurs, erosion will worsen, and exudation will increase. Secondary infections often occur due to skin damage, leading to nearby lymph node enlargement and accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever, poor appetite, dry stools, and red stools. Parents should stay confident and avoid excessive worry about infant eczema. If medications are misused, eczema may further affect the infant.
