The academic research series "Political and Social Change in Modern China" is the final outcome of a "985" research project at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, focusing on the relationship between political and social change in modern China.
Politics is a broad and complex concept. This project defines politics in a broad sense, expanding the research scope to political thought, political institutions, international environment, and foreign relations in modern China. It also examines important political figures and major political events, integrating politics with society to explore the relationship between politics and the economy, the impact of politics on education and talent cultivation, the role of politics in social stability and progress, and the influence of politics on foreign relations. It particularly analyzes the political attitudes of key figures and the social impact of their governance theories, policies, and methods. The study aims to conduct a multi-angle and multi-level analysis using the theories and methods of political sociology to explore the interactive relationship between politics and society. It seeks to measure and evaluate the correctness of political thought, advocacy, and the governance of political figures based on the stability, progress, development, and level of civilization of society. This is a new attempt.
This book argues for the process of modern Chinese social change from political, educational, and social perspectives, aiming to demonstrate that while political factors are naturally important in social change, education, which is crucial for cultivating and shaping talent, is even more significant.
