Is ADHD related to rhinitis?

Patient's question:

My child has rhinitis. The child often squints and rubs their nose, is hyperactive, and this is also related to rhinitis?

Doctor's answer:

Many parents, even some doctors, simply categorize children with ADHD and Tourette Syndrome as having a mental illness. In fact, children's unusual behaviors, such as blinking, rubbing their noses, or clearing their throats, are closely related to nasal allergies. Based on my experience treating cases, when children with allergic rhinitis are treated, their tics and hyperactivity tend to decrease.
