Features: Due to multiple enthusiastic invitations from the publisher, I was asked to write about my perspective on Yao Ming. Having interviewed the NBA for many years, I have covered the finals for three consecutive years and reported on regular-season games, the NBA All-Star Game, and the NBA Draft. In 2002, I traveled to the United States four times: the All-Star Game in Philadelphia in February; trips to Dallas and Denver in April to watch Wang Zhizhi and Yao Ming play; the draft in New York in June; and the regular-season games featuring Yao Ming in Houston in December. Covering the NBA with such high frequency, I know, is perhaps not common among my peers in China. I would like to specially mention the Xinmin Evening News and its department leaders, expressing my gratitude for the opportunity and also for the long-standing support from the NBA company for our newspaper. By recording the details of interviewing Yao Ming and the NBA, I hope to share these real stories with readers.
