Features: Lean Enterprise Value boldly redefines lean manufacturing as a framework for enterprise transformation. It expands the popular concept of "lean" to encompass actions that eliminate waste with the goal of creating value. The authors explore the core competitiveness of industries with high technological complexity in the new century. The eight years of research on the Lean Aerospace Initiative at MIT provide a "living experience" that informs the principles and value creation framework developed in this book. We dedicate this book to the individuals in the American aerospace industry—whether they are in the industry, government, labor unions, or universities, including our graduate students and MIT faculty colleagues—who inspired the writing of this book with their contributions to the Lean Aerospace Initiative. Their intellect and contributions help shape a brighter future for the aviation industry. The writing team of 13 authors consists of renowned scholars and practitioners from the aerospace field, bringing decades of experience to the discussion of critical issues facing the industry today. The 13 authors' credentials include: 3 members of the American Society of Industrial Engineers; senior members and past presidents of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the National Academy of Engineering; a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; one who was the former Secretary of the U.S. Air Force; a former director of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT; a former vice dean of the MIT Sloan School of Management; they have long careers in the aerospace industry and the U.S. Navy; they are authors of numerous books and journal articles.
