Features: China's economic system reform, opening-up, and economic development have entered a new historical stage, with a socialist market economy system having taken form. The Chinese economy is growing rapidly at an annual rate of over 8%, and the gap between our per capita income and living standards and those of developed countries is continuously narrowing. However, the market economy in China is still in its infancy, and our understanding of it remains relatively superficial. Western economics largely represents the theoretical summaries and empirical conclusions of Western scholars about developed market economies, offering a systematic and normative analysis of the market economy. The construction and development of Chinese economics, as well as our deepened understanding of the market economy, require both: on one hand, guiding research on new phenomena and issues emerging from China's market economy practice under the guidance of Marxist principles and methods, and elevating these research findings to the level of economic theory; on the other hand, studying and drawing on Western economics, adopting those achievements in Western economics that reflect the commonalities and general relationships of the market economy for our own use, and adapting those parts of Western economics that do not align with China's realities through "Sinicization" to enable them to explain and address China's economic issues. To achieve the above goals, we believe it is necessary to establish a specialized platform in China's academic circles to publish the academic achievements of domestic and international scholars in the research, commentary, and application of Western economics. This is the original intention and motivation behind the editing and publication of Journal of Western Economics.
Journal of Western Economics primarily publishes three types of papers:
(1) New research findings of Western economists (published in English, 2–3 papers per issue).
(2) Achievements of Chinese scholars in studying Western economics, including reviews and critiques of new theories and developments in Western economics, as well as specialized studies on specific schools, theories, and methods of Western economics.
(3) Analyses of China's real-world economic issues using the theories and methods of Western economics.
We warmly welcome scholars from home and abroad to submit their papers to Journal of Western Economics, especially those with originality, new ideas, and academic rigor. The editorial office of Journal of Western Economics is located at the School of Economics, Renmin University of China.
