Publication Date: 2006-05-01
Features: Rational dialogue and communication, listening to each other's viewpoints, understanding each other through conversation, and thereby achieving a certain degree of mutual understanding. Perhaps this is one of the most effective and cost-efficient ways for people today to resolve conflicts and contradictions. As human society progresses and wisdom grows, our ancestors have left us with abundant experiences and lessons. In the 21st century, we hope to resolve our conflicts and contradictions in a better way.
As both China and Japan entered modernity, how did their relationship change, what were its characteristics, was the "Tanaka Memorial" a real document or a forged one, how should Japan's supported puppet regime in China be viewed, where do the differences lie regarding historical textbooks between China and Japan, and other related issues. These questions are not only debated in academic circles of both countries but also affect ordinary citizens, further shaping the direction of bilateral relations. How can we overcome historical barriers to achieve long-term peace and friendship, and what contributions can historians make in this process.
This book is an initial effort by a group of Chinese scholars in Japan to enhance the exchange and communication between scholars of both countries, aiming to foster mutual understanding and, to some extent, achieve consensus on historical issues.
