Patient's question:
I have developed varicocele due to long-term sexual activity. Now my testicles are always swollen and aching, which is very uncomfortable. After a thorough examination at the hospital, the doctor recommended that I have surgery. How is varicocele treated?Doctor's answer:
When walking more or engaging in physical labor, symptoms may worsen, but lying down in bed for a while can alleviate them. The veins of the testicles, epididymis, and vas deferens merge to form the spermatic cord veins. Therefore, varicocele is most likely to recur on the left side. Additionally, the internal spermatic veins often contain many valves that control the direction of blood flow, allowing blood to move only from the scrotum to the heart and preventing it from flowing downward into the scrotum. When these valves are defective or dysfunctional, it can easily lead to venous reflux in the internal spermatic veins, thereby causing recurrent varicocele. Apart from some triggering factors, such as prolonged standing, walking, or excessive sexual activity, can also lead to varicocele.
