What are the treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia?

Patient's question:

Due to difficulty urinating, I interrupted in the middle of urinating and then waited for a while before continuing. Sometimes I have frequent urination, so I went to the hospital for a follow-up visit. The black and white MRI suggested prostatic hyperplasia and swelling. I was very surprised at the time and couldn't figure it out. How could I get this condition when I'm not even elderly yet?

Doctor's answer:

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), formerly known as benign prostatic hypertrophy, is one of the common diseases among elderly men and is a benign inflammatory condition of the prostate. The cause of its onset is the decline in testicular function with age, leading to abnormal metabolism of male hormones, resulting in an endocrine imbalance between androgens and estrogens in the body. The inflammation originates from glandular tissue, connective tissue, and smooth muscle tissue in the middle lobe or lateral lobe beneath the mucous membrane of the posterior urethra, forming mixed spherical nodules. The degree of obstruction of the prostate decreases, ranging in size from that of a chicken egg to a duck egg or goose egg. The fibrosis of the lateral lobes and the middle lobe is particularly prominent, invading the bladder or urethra, controlling the neck of the bladder or the urethra.
