How to treat balanitis?

Patient's question:

I think I might have developed balanitis, and I used Cefixime dispersible tablets to reduce inflammation. I want to ask if this is effective and how to treat balanitis?

Doctor's answer:

Inflammation of the glans penis is called balanitis. It can be caused by various pathogens, local irritation, and other factors. Initially, the local area becomes moist, the skin of the penis turns red and swollen, and there is a sensation of itching, burning, and heat in the glans. When the foreskin is retracted, it is evident that the inner surface of the foreskin and the glans are congested, disordered, and have exudate, even with broken skin. Secondary infection may lead to shallow ulcers with foul-smelling creamy purulent discharge. Generally, the inguinal lymph nodes are swollen and tender. First, remove the irritant factors. When there is disordered exudate, use a 3% boric acid solution or a 0.05% coptis chinensis solution for wet compresses. Antimicrobial treatment should target different pathogens and use antifungal, antitrichomonal, and other medications.
