Features: The first work in this volume is Marx's "The Civil War in France." It was published as a declaration from the General Council of the International Workingmen's Association to all members in Europe and America. On March 18, 1871, the Paris proletariat heroically carried out an armed uprising and declared the establishment of the Paris Commune. Marx immediately collected and studied materials on the activities of the Commune, successively writing the first draft, the second draft (excerpts of which are included in this volume), and finally completing this work. Here, Marx describes the actual activities of the Paris Commune during its 72 days of existence, summarizes the Commune's experiences and lessons, further develops Marxist theory on the proletarian revolution and the state, and the theory of the dictatorship of the proletariat. He also discusses the economic policies of the proletariat after seizing state power and the issue of the proletariat's allies.
