After a burn, the burned area should be immediately immersed in clean cold water. The earlier the burned area is immersed in cold water, the better the effect. This allows for timely heat dissipation, which can reduce pain or the severity of the burn. For minor burns (meaning first-degree burns with redness but no blisters), they can generally be treated at home first. Rinse and clean the wound with lukewarm water (or dilute saltwater). For wounds on the arms, legs, or torso, apply a bandage with purple grass oil or burn ointment.
