What are the reasons for edema after circumcision surgery?

Patient's question:

17 days after the circumcision surgery today, there is still swelling. Since the surgery wasn't performed at Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), I went there instead. On the 25th, I was prescribed antibiotics like cephalexin. On the 29th, I went for a follow-up check-up, and the doctor prescribed several boxes of oral antibiotics and a large bottle of liquid for wound dressing. Recently, the pain has subsided, but there is still pain when I press the wound on the back of my penis. Hello doctor, is it because the wound hasn't healed yet that it still hurts? Erections are also less painful now, although it's best not to have erections. However, sometimes during the day when I wake up, it's unavoidable.

Doctor's answer:

1, It is best to rest for 1-2 days after surgery. You can lie down and rest, and you can read materials or books, but try to minimize walking to avoid postoperative bleeding.
2, After surgery, try to avoid thinking about or touching pornographic, magazines, online images, and videos, as touching these things can cause the penis to become erect, which may lead to postoperative bleeding.
3, In terms of diet, try to eat light foods and avoid spicy, highly stimulating foods.
4, Generally, a dressing change is performed every 3 days. After about three days, normal exercise is usually not a problem.
5, Postoperatively, prophylactic antibiotics are typically used for 3-5 days. Painkillers can be taken in very small doses if necessary.
6, Postoperatively, discomfort in the glans penis may reappear.
