Features: This book tells the true story that took place in Edinburgh, Scotland. A poor man named Old York and his small dog, Bobby, wandered to Edinburgh. In 1858, York fell ill and couldn’t afford medical treatment, passing away in a small inn shortly after. After Bobby guarded his master’s body to the church cemetery for burial, he stayed there for fourteen years as a guardian. During those fourteen years, the homeless Bobby endured hardships to stay by his master’s side. For example: He was once tricked to a place over ten kilometers away. Discovering this, Bobby rushed back overnight, leaped down from a castle into the fog, and injured his leg. After recovering, he returned to guard his master’s grave. He never longed for a comfortable life, willingly enduring hunger and thirst to stay with his master. No matter the harsh winter or scorching summer, or through storms and rain, he always stayed by his master’s grave until he died in 1872. Bobby’s love and loyalty to his master moved the people of England. To allow him to continue accompanying his master after death, he was exceptionally buried in the church cemetery and a monument was erected in his honor.
