The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch (Dunhuang Edition of the Platform Sutra)

Author: (Tang) Huineng, annotated by Deng Wenkuan
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-01-01
Features: The most influential classic among Chinese people, the widely circulated version of the Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch is the Yuan Dynasty Zongbao edition. After the opening of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang in 1900, handwritten scrolls of the Platform Sutra recorded and compiled by disciples of the Sixth Patriarch during the Tang and Five Dynasties periods were discovered. Research has found that the Dunhuang edition of the Platform Sutra reflects the thoughts of the Sixth Patriarch Huineng more accurately and is closer to the true essence of the Master Huineng than the Zongbao edition and other versions. The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch—A Dunhuang Studies Reader, meticulously annotated by Mr. Deng Wenkuan, is both a research work on "Dunhuang Studies" and an accessible introduction to Buddhist culture.
