It includes twenty essays on ancient Chinese history, five on modern Chinese history, and three on the history of Sino-Western relations. It can be said that every essay is a masterpiece of scholarship. He personally chose the title for the book and wrote a brief preface for it himself while on his deathbed. Explorations in Chinese History was first published by Zhonghua Book Company in Traditional Chinese characters in April 1981. This edition is in Simplified Chinese characters.
