Indigenous Peoples and Digital Surfers (Miller's China Speech Collection)

Author: Miller (USA) Author, Yi Xiaoming Editor
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-06-01
Features: With the hope of making up for this discount, the author has compiled most of Miller's available speeches in China and some responses from scholars into a book. To provide Chinese readers with a comprehensive understanding of Miller, a preface was specially commissioned from Miller for this book. Through his personal academic journey, we can vividly and vividly feel some of the developments of literary theory in the United States, and at the same time, we can clearly see the changes and development of Miller's critical thought. In his early years, he advocated the "consciousness criticism" theory, believing that literature is basically a form of consciousness, and works are consciousness forms expressed in literary form through thought. Later, after the prevalence of deconstructionism, he shifted from following Plei to supporting Derrida's deconstructionism. The book also includes Miller's academic resume and bibliography, attempting to present a full picture of Miller's academic achievements. But I know that this is actually impossible. All these efforts can only reduce the discount that Miller receives in China. This reduction comes from the fact that reading articles is always more comprehensive and in-depth than listening to speeches, and a series of articles are conducive to mutual reference and a more complete understanding of Miller's thought. One regrettable point is that some of the texts of individual speeches by Miller during his early visits to China were not published in Chinese at the time. In addition, every time Miller comes to China, he gives lectures in various places and schools. This book can only mark one unit as representative. It should also be noted that there are already quite a number of articles on Miller's research, translation, and interviews in China. Only four of them are selected as representatives, which is limited by the theme and scope of this book.
